EFFECTS OF LITTERING
Littering effects everyone, animals, people, and plants.
How Littering Affects Animals
Animals get stuck in everyday plastics and can choke with it around their neck. Birds get caught in discarded fishing lines and the fishing lines can be swallowed and can damage animals bodies. Cans cut tiny animals that look for shade trying to go inside the can. Animals also get caught in gum that can damage birds feathers to make the bird unable to fly.
How Littering Affects Plants
Littering affects plant growth. The larger amounts of litter harms the plants even more. If the trash is non-toxic then it's a matter of quantity. If the ground or the plant is so buried that it can't receive adequate sunlight, the plant will suffer nor sprout in the first place.
How Littering Affects the Ocean
Litter is costly to clean up, impacts our quality of life and economic development. Micro-plastics and marine debris in our waters affect everything from the water we drink to the marine animals we eat. Micro-plastics are extremely small pieces of plastic debris in the environment resulting from the breakdown of consumer products and industrial waste.
How Littering Affects Us
Littering can effect us by how there's changing weather patterns, rising sea level, and more extreme weather events. These are situations that will affect the poor and vulnerable the most. While the poor won’t be the only ones to feel these side effects, they don’t have the adequate resources to deal with them.
